About

We all have moments when we wish we were different or like someone in particular. We wish we were better persons and we are undergoing a constant transformation. However, we are reluctant to or we never give up our beliefs and principles when we talk about what we enjoy doing. In my case, fine art photography.
Therefore, allow me to state a few of my principles.
I don't want to talk about commercial photography, photojournalism or commissioned photography any longer, as to me vision is what matters, being passionate and having style is what counts. And as the style is actually the person, the originality of the fine art photographer arises, which is not someone else’s voice, but that of their own creative will.
Not to mention the rush for sensationalism; but I favour following and revealing beauty in a landscape, a portrait, an architectural structure, or when watching the sunset and the sunrise.
I wish to prove that photographs can “speak” of the miracle of the “moments” which can move and sensitise the art lovers and others alike. The fine art photographer will represent themselves as creators who, in fact, express themselves with every image, with every focus on the “moment” to be photographed.

Being limited editions, every fine art photograph will offer its owner a distinction of artistic good taste and of the appreciation of aesthetics, and thus the acknowledgement of the fact that art changes, but stays the same.

Who is Nicolae Cosniceru?

Nicolae Cosniceru lives and works in Bucharest, Romania.

He has an IT background, as he graduated from the Faculty of Computers of the Politehnica University of Bucharest.
Being passionate about technology and the arts, at the end of the ’70 he chose to express himself through the camera.

The following period was one of experimenting, hard work and self-study. He divided his time between professional training, and later on the profession for which he had trained, and photography, which he felt an increasing interest in.

In 1983 he became a member of the Association of Fine Art Photographers (AAF) and held 2 personal exhibitions in the summer of 1986 and the autumn of 1989, both in the foyer of Teatrul Foarte Mic.
The 1986 exhibition was one of black-and-white photographs, as a subtle protest against the social and political restraints, particularly the obstruction of the freedom of speech. Eventually, there were certain people who interfered with it and the exhibition was closed prematurely. The 1989 exhibition, entitled “People under the sky”, was one of visual art with the help of photography, according to Victor Ernest Masek, the then curator. The works were colour photographs, some of them with various alterations, which changed them into visual installations. The main theme was mankind's relationship with nature, time and its destiny.

After 1990, his desire to dedicate more and more of his time to photography made him change his passion into a profession. He found employment as a professional photographer and in 1993 became a freelancer and started doing advertising photography. In 1995 he opened his own professional studio and, since then, enhancing its potential has been his constant preoccupation.

During all this time, Nicolae Cosniceru has created professional photographs for internationally renowned agencies and has a portfolio of prestigious clients; however, he wishes to be acknowledged as an artist who wants to express his style through personal works which would satisfy the artistic sense of the public. Nevertheless, this statute will not stop him from continuing his old professional activity, on the contrary, it will represent an advantage over other photographers.

He has worked with all major agencies, among which Ogilvy, Saatchi&Saatchi, Loweworldwide, Grey Worldwide, Publicis, McCann Erickson, Grafitti BBDO, etc. and for clients such as Orange, Romtelecom, Cosmote, Sony, Audi, Coca-Cola, OMV-Petrom, Procter&Gamble, Unilever, Brewery Holding, Tuborg and Dacia – Renault.

From the moment he became a professional photographer, his top priorities have been to broaden his horizons and improve his skills. He had the opportunity of working with photographers in professional studios in Munich and participated in international workshops in Germany, Great Britain and Austria. He took part in international photography fairs, came into contact with photography agents and production agencies, and met and has stayed in touch with famous photographers like Peter Ruting, Urs Kuckertz, Eugenio Recuenco and Andreas Bitesnich. He is currently represented by Getty Global Assignment.

He participated in the exhibition “Anxiety” organised by the Fine Arts Academy, illustrating the themes through photography, where the students gathered for a protest event, in a period of transition and confusion as was the case in the first post-revolution years. He succeeded in giving the displayed works a noticeably personal touch, thus enhancing their message.

He created an album with portraits of several Romanian personalities, called “Inner Light”, which was published in November 1999 and sponsored by Pricewaterhouse Coopers.

He worked for the exhibitions of artist Ioan Nemtoi: “Water and Fire” - Cotroceni Museum, Bucharest, 2003; “My Extravaganza” - Oxo Gallery and Bargehouse, London, 2004; “Madrid 11.03” - Nemtoi Gallery, Bucharest, 2005; “Who’s afraid of glass” - Museo Civico di Bassano del Grappa, Italy, 2007.

At the multidisciplinary exhibition “1200ºC” held in 2005 in Bucharest at the Nemtoi Gallery and the Carturesti Bookshop, he participated with a projection of images and photographs within the exhibition and, together with artist Ioan Nemtoi, was one of the main exhibitors.

Regardless of the theme of his photographs, namely landscapes, close-ups, symbols, still life, photographs taken in the studio and on location, architecture or urban elements, the way in which Nicolae Cosniceru interprets the reality around him through the camera is exceptional.
Many of his photographs are on display at www.cosniceru.com and at the stock photography website www.stock-photo.ro.
